In Italy, Metal Injection Molding is often a niche technology with sky-high prices, reserved for the medical or watchmaking sectors. For the mechanical industry, costs are often priced out of the market.
If you are producing complex parts using CNC machining centers, you are paying to turn up to 80% of the high-grade material you purchase into chips. You are literally milling away your margins.
Traditional local sintering often fails to reach the densities required for structural applications, forcing you to oversize parts or sacrifice performance.
But you also know that going it alone is a leap in the dark

Let’s put the numbers in black and white: here is what you actually get when you choose EDR compared to traditional alternatives.
Many suppliers limit themselves to sintering and delivery. We manage the entire transformation cycle. From choosing the correct technology (MIM or PM) to mechanical machining, aesthetic finishing, and non-destructive testing. You receive a component that goes directly into the box or into assembly, without having to manage subcontractors for treatments or secondary operations.
We don’t push a technology just because “we have that machine.” We guide you toward the most economical and high-performing process for your design.
The mandatory choice for complex 3D geometries, thin walls (down to 0.3mm), and high-grade materials (316L Stainless Steel, 17-4PH, Titanium). We achieve densities of 96-99% and tight tolerances (±0.3%) directly from the mold.
The unbeatable solution for high volumes (>50,000 pcs) and simple geometries (flat gears, bushings). We reduce unit costs while ensuring dimensional repeatability.
And to complete the job 100%:
The sintered part is just the beginning. We provide the component with the appearance and resistance required by your specifications.
Mechanical machining (CNC): When MIM is not enough (e.g., H7 bearing seats or fine threads), we perform precision turning and milling operations directly on the sintered part.
The nightmare of sintering is porosity. We prevent it before the part leaves the factory.
We inspect the interior of the component to certify the absence of micro-bubbles or internal cracks invisible to the naked eye.
To identify any surface defects or micro-cracks caused by shrinkage.
Essential for valve bodies or hydraulic components; we verify 100% watertightness if required.
Complete dimensional reports performed in our metrology laboratory in Genoa to validate critical dimensions.
Don’t have a 3D file? No problem. We reconstruct it starting from your physical sample, optimizing it for the MIM process.
Many promise you “Chinese prices.” Few tell you what happens when something goes wrong.
We do not ask you to take our word for it.
We provide you with written, contractual, and insurance guarantees that no improvised trader can offer you.
We apply a double check:
1. In Asia: Our technical staff performs factory audits and in-line inspections during production.
2. In Italy: Before delivery to you, the goods pass through our metrological laboratory in Genoa. We verify tolerances and materials with CMM machines, 3D scanners, and spectrometers.
This is the guarantee that gives our customers peace of mind. EDR Fittings covers every supply with a Third-Party Liability Insurance Policy.
If one of our components should cause accidental damage to property or persons due to a manufacturing defect, you are covered.
Virtually no one else does this. We do.
We know that investing in new molds can be daunting. Here is our pact: We produce the tooling and the first samples. If they do not conform to the drawing, we redo them at our expense.
What if the second trial is also unsuccessful?
We will fully refund the cost of the tooling. You do not risk a single euro.
Forget about fluctuations in the Dollar or Yuan that erode margins once an order has started.
The price we agree upon at the time of the order is what you will pay upon delivery, in Euro. We take on the exchange rate risk.
We directly manage intermodal transport from Asia to the rest of the world by air, rail, or sea.
Should production suffer an unexpected delay, we take charge of the urgent air shipment to get you the parts needed to keep the line running, at no additional cost to you.

We are not salespeople; we are technicians and engineers.
Behind EDR Fittings there is no anonymous investment fund. There is Edoardo Della Rocca, founder and technician with a visceral passion for mechanics.
“I founded EDR with a simple idea: to combine the best technologies in the
world (which today are found in Asia) with the culture of Italian quality.
I am a pilot (Porsche GT3) and a nautical commander: I know that a defective component is not just a cost, it is a risk that one cannot afford.”
This is why several times a year I personally visit the factories of our production partners in China and India. I am not satisfied with a report via email.
I want to see the machines running and the quality controls being performed.”

FAQ
It is a matter of geometry and density. Traditional Sintering (PM) is unbeatable for simple shapes (flat gears, bushings) and very high volumes (>50,000 pieces), but it leaves internal porosity (80-90% density). MIM (Metal Injection Molding), on the other hand, is the only choice if you have complex 3D geometries, thin walls, threads, or undercuts that would require expensive CNC machining. With MIM, we achieve a density of 96-99%, practically identical to solid metal. Send us the 3D file: our engineers will indicate the correct technology in a free feasibility analysis.
It is an old myth related to poor-quality sintering. MIM uses ultra-fine powders (2-15 microns) that fuse almost completely. A heat-treated 17-4PH MIM component reaches hardness (40-45 HRC) and tensile strength (>1100 MPa) comparable to forged steel. For critical structural applications, we perform tensile tests and density checks in the laboratory to certify that mechanical performance meets specifications.
MIM typically guarantees tolerances of ±0.3% – ±0.5% on the nominal dimension. Since there is a dimensional shrinkage of about 20% during the process, we do not leave critical dimensions (e.g., H7 bearing seats) to chance: we plan for a coining phase post-sintering or a light CNC grinding operation to guarantee the hundredth of a millimeter. You receive the finished part according to the drawing; how we achieve the tolerance is our responsibility.
Pitting emerges if the debinding or sintering process is not controlled and leaves residual micro-bubbles. We use the MIM Silica Sol process and sintering cycles in a controlled atmosphere specific to 316L Stainless Steel intended for polishing. Furthermore, for the luxury or marine sectors, we can apply HIP (Hot Isostatic Pressing), a treatment that compacts the material at very high pressure, eliminating any residual microporosity and ensuring a perfect mirror surface.
MIM requires a mold, so there is an initial setup cost. However, molds in Asia cost approximately 50% less than in Europe. This drastically lowers the Break-Even Point. Often, MIM becomes more cost-effective than CNC starting from as few as 500-1,000 pieces. If you have a complex component that costs you €15 to mill, with MIM you could pay €3: the mold pays for itself with the first order.
Absolutely, yes; it is the greatest economic advantage of MIM. If you currently weld a flange onto a tube or assemble three machined parts, we can redesign everything as a single monolithic component. You eliminate assembly costs and the risk of breakage at welds, and you manage only one SKU in stock instead of three. Our technicians assist you in co-design to achieve this result.
We provide the finished component, ready for the assembly line or sale. We internally manage heat treatments (such as quenching or T6 solution treatment), galvanic treatments (Nickel, Zinc, Chrome plating), and aesthetic finishes (Painting, Cataphoresis, PVD). You won’t have to manage subcontractors: the responsibility for final quality lies entirely with EDR.
The molds are your exclusive property 100%. Unlike plastic molds that wear out, MIM molds are made of special hardened steels and last for hundreds of thousands of cycles. EDR guarantees free routine maintenance at our production partners for the entire life of the project.
We do not rely on paper certificates. Chemical compliance is verified via spectrometer both during production and, on a sample basis, in our Genoa laboratory or at certified third-party bodies. Furthermore, our Allianz Product Liability Policy protects you legally and economically in case of damage resulting from hidden material defects—a guarantee that a trader or direct importer cannot provide.
